Rankin, Mary Rebecca – Age 94, of Mabou. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, on March 31, 2014, in Inverary Manor, Inverness. Mary was a daughter of the late William and Annie (MacDonnell) Parker. Mary was born on June 4th, 1919, and was raised in Brookvillage. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou, and spent her earlier years helping her dad at his Saw Mill. In 1942, she married John Alex and moved to the homestead at Rankinville. There, they raised 11 children. Mary was a kind and caring lady and loved by everyone. She always served a great cup of tea to anyone who came to her home. She was always an avid card player and loved to win! She also loved to have the Ace of Hearts in her hand as she felt she could either win the game or put you down. She was well known for her hand made woolen socks. Mary had wonderful friends over the years that were of great comfort to her during times of sadness in her life. Mary will be sadly missed by children, Elaine (Gerry) of Lower Sackville; Sandy (Heather), Rankinville; Finley (Sadie), Scotsville; Cecilia (Ed), Lower Sackville; Cathy, Mabou; Annette (Brian), Liverpool; John Francis (Brenda), Rankinville and Elizabeth (Lauchie), Troy. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John Alex; her sons, Alan and Willie; daughter, Mary Margaret and daughter in infancy; her brother, Archie and her sister, Margaret; and great granddaughter, Ella Rose. We would like to extend our sincere thank you to the wonderful staff at the Manor for the great care given to our Mom. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, in the Vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.., in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou with Father Angus Morris officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations can be made to the Inverary Manor, Inverness or to St. Mary’s Cemetery fund, Mabou.
