Mary Claire MacDonald

With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on June 12 at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Daughter of Bill and Marie (Beaton) McDaniel, Mary Claire was born in Inverness on July 10, 1948 and grew up in Brook Village with her sister and seven brothers. Married in 1967 to Charles MacDonald of Port Hood, they made their home there, and raised four children Katrina, Joseph (Ken), Shanne and Aaron. At the family businesses they began together, Mary Claire was most renowned for her attention to detail and her home-style cooking.

Family was the center of Mary Claire’s life and friends became family. In addition to her loving husband, children and grandchildren Myah and Lewis, she leaves to mourn her siblings Elizabeth (Wayne), Gerry (Cheryl) and Francis (Anne Marie), many nieces and nephews. She joins now her parents and brothers Matt, Colin, Clarence, Sam and Ronnie in eternal rest.

We are grateful to all of the healthcare professionals for the compassionate attention she received in her final months.

Visitation will take place in Port Hood & Area Resting Place Friday June 16 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass to take place in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Hood Saturday June 17 at 1pm followed by interment in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only, memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or a charity of your choice.
