John Angus Gillis

Gillis, John Angus – Age 84, of Port Hood, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Harbourview June 24, 1929, he was a son of the late John D. and Janet (Beaton) Gillis; beloved husband of Carmelita (MacDonald); dear father of Elaine (Pat) Daly; and proud grandfather of Claire and John. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Catherine Gillis, Oakville, Ont.; Florence (Angelo) Amara, Boston, Mass., and Elaine (Stuart) Tyler, Oakville, Ont. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews who were frequent visitors over the years. John Angus was predeceased by his brothers, Joe (Red Lake, Ont.) and Angus, (Toronto), and by his sister, Mary Janet (Truro). John Angus was a long- time member of St. Peter’s Parish, Port Hood. A special thank you to Dr. Lok and the nursing staff of the East Wing in Inverness who cared for John Angus in such a kind and compassionate manner. Visitation will take place in Port Hood Resting Place from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Friday, April 4th. A funeral mass will take place at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood, with burial in the Parish Cemetery at a later date.
