With sadness, we announce the peaceful death of Donald Gabriel Macneil, “Donnie”, of Mabou and recently of the Namara apartments. The death occurred on Sunday, March 8th, 2015 in Inverary Manor, Inverness. Donnie was born in Inverness on January 22nd, 1948. He was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret, (Kennedy), MacNeil (of Mabou). He attended ST. Francis Xavier University, after graduated from Mabou Consolidated High School. He worked as an accountant for the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forests, as a trust officer with the National Trust Cooperation, as well as locally in Mabou at MacMillan’s Video Store and the Mabou Fire Department private members club. Donnie prepared income tax returns as a sideline. He was an avid Boston Bruins fan in hockey and Atlanta Braves fan in baseball. Donnie had a sincere, kind heart and a unique ability to make all those he met feel his genuine interest in them. He is survived by brother, Cyril (Jeanette), Port Hood; sister Lois (Stephen), Kingston, Ontario; several nieces and nephews, one grandniece and two grand nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Bernie; several uncles and aunts. The family would like to sincerely thank the medical staff of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, especially Doctor Monique LaFrance for the care, attention, and compassion which was given to Donnie in his last few years of failing health. We would like to thank the staff of Home Care Inverness and the staff of Inverary Manor for their excellent care. We will be forever grateful to the many community people who extended themselves in true concern, interest, and action for Donnie’s welfare during the last few years.
