MacDonald, Daniel Alexander – 92. It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Donald on Thursday, May 24, 2012, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born on October 1, 1919, in West Mabou, he was a son of the late Johnny Murdock and Catherine (MacIsaac) MacDonald.
Donald was a veteran of the Second World War who saw combat overseas. Donald was a gentleman with a whimsical wit, a gentle smile and a great love for family. He was a very kind, generous person. He was highly respected in his community and was known as a man of faith, integrity and fairness. Donald is survived by sons, John (Ann), Norman (Carol), Gerard (Laura), Donnie (Nellie); daughters, Elizabeth (Peter Pucovsky), Gloria (Willie MacLellan), Veronica (Vlad Mudra), Frances (Clarey Farrell), Janice (Hugh Dillion); 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Alma; son, Bernard, 1982; daughter, Catherine Ann MacDonnell (Burke), 1994; grandson Vladjo Mudra, 1988; and brothers, Tony MacLeod, Murdock, John Angus, Finlay, Allan, Angus Joseph and Jim Willie.
Visitation will be held in the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou on Saturday May 26 from 7-9 pm and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 28 at 11 am in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou with Fr. Angus Morris officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Pioneer Cemetery, West Mabou, Mabou Fire Department or to St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery Fund, Mabou.
