It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Collena Isobel Campbell on February 24, 2019, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, after a two in a half year battle with cancer. Refusing to give up, she met this disease head on and remained positive while being selflessly a voice of comfort for those around her and went down swinging to the very end.
Born in Harbourview on July 1, 1955, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (MacMullin) MacKinnon (of Judique). She was a loving and caring wife and mother survived by her husband Francis (Riverville) and son Clarke (Cara), Calgary, Alta. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Ethel (Rod) Chisholm, Port Hood; Peggy (Sandy) MacNeil, Creignish; Malena (Drew) MacSween, Enfield; and Karen (Paul) Carriere, Ottawa, Ontario. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she truly cherished.
Colleen was a substitute teacher with the Strait Regional School Board for almost 40 years. It was a career she passionately enjoyed and through which she developed many lasting friendships.
We, the family, would like to thank the nurses and staff at Inverness Hospital, Sydney Hospital and Home Care for their kind and compassionate care.
The family would especially like to thank Melinda, Melissa, Hayley and Michelle from Oncology; Mary Jessie, Melody, Leela and Breah from Home Care; Dr. Egar, Arlene Billard, Dr. Archibald, Dr. Ritter, Lori Ann, Paulette and Johena. A special thanks to Father Bernie for his daily visits and spiritual guidance.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27th in the vestry of St. Mary's Church, Mabou from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Mabou, with Father Bernie MacDonald officiating, with burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. As per Colleen’s wishes, please pray for the souls in purgatory.
