With loving hearts the family of Angus Jerome Beaton announces his peaceful passing on July 22, 2014, surrounded by his family. Angus, 84 years, worked and lived his life in Glencoe and area. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth; his daughters, Janice (Bob Chelmick), Geraldine (Alec MacNeil), Cathy (Michael Campbell) and beloved grandsons, John James (Jaclyn) and Angus Anthony.
Angus was predeceased by his parents, Alex Hector and Mary Ann (MacKinnon) Beaton. He is survived by sisters, Kaye Brady (late Gerry) and Theresa MacDonell (late Alex William) and sisters-in-law, Mary Jessie and Emma. Angus was also predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Alexander, Hector, Malcolm, Marie McDaniel (Bill), Agnes, John Duncan (Joyce), Margaret Moran (Eddie), Charlie, and Anne McGill (Gordon). Angus was also blessed with many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Being fourth generation to grow up on the family farm in Glencoe, Angus was the sixth son and the one who stayed on, where he worked tirelessly putting his heart and soul into the farming life, which also included cutting pulp. Another joy for Angus was working in the woods. In later years, he was employed by A.C. Campbell Contractors Limited, where he made dear friends and walked many miles a day as a timber scaler.
Angus was forever faithful to the warm and closely-knit community of Glencoe and St. Joseph’s Parish. Whatever the project, the people of Glencoe came together and did whatever it took. Angus was ever committed to working beside his friends and neighbours.
Angus’s gifts extended beyond the farm and the woods; from entertaining with his singing and clever songwriting, to standing up to speak at gatherings, to years of reading in church, Angus had a special way.
The family wishes to extend deep gratitude to Mary Anderson, NP, and Dr Susie Egar, as well as the staff of the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital and the Palliative Care team. In addition, the family is very appreciative of the local first responders and EHS services, for their wonderful help and support.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 25th from 2 to 8 p.m. and on July 26th from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. in Glencoe Community Hall. The funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Parish church, with Father Bernie MacDonald officiating; concelebrating will be Father Danny MacLennan.
Burial in the parish cemetery.
