Allan Archibald MacMillan, 63, Mabou, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Born May 16, 1954, in Inverness, Cape Breton, Allan was the son of John Alex and Tena (MacIsaac) MacMillan. Survived by his children, his pride and inspiration, John (Kristen), Willamswood; Allan, James, both of Edmonton; Kenneth (Ellen), Neil, both of Halifax; and Catriona, Edmonton; grandchildren Michael and Nevaeh; brothers Donald, Bobby, David (Melody), Andrew (Michele), all of Mabou; and Stevie, Miramichi, N.B.; sisters Mary Florence (Allan), Stewiacke; Joanne (Laurne), Strathlorne; and Margo (Pat), Port Hood; nephews, nieces and cousins. Allan (Boom) was predeceased by his wife of 26 years, Geraldine (2005); brother Gregory and his parents. Allan’s early years were spent in Glencoe Mills, before the family moved to Mabou. He graduated from Mabou Consolidated School and went on to earn certificates as an automotive service technician and a truck and transport mechanic. Allan unlatched his toolbox at his own garage in Mabou, at the school bus garage and at truck and transport repair shops in Nova Scotia and Alberta. Allan worked as a bus driver, on construction sites and delivering daily newspapers. He indulged a lifelong enthusiasm for watching and wagering on harness races. Allan lived for the opportunity to trade light-hearted stories with family and friends. Visitation is on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m., at St. Mary’s Church Vestry, Mabou, and funeral mass Tuesday at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, officiated by Rev. Bernie MacDonald.
