It is with great sadness we announce the death of our dear father, grandfather and brother Alex "Gicks" who passed away peacefully on Thursday May 9, 2019 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Alexander Andrew MacNeil was born on February 12, 1949 in Inverness to the late John Angus "Gicks" and Mary (Mullins) MacNeil. Alex is survived by his wife, Lillian (Clarke) MacNeil; children, Conrad (Tracy), Jody (Warren) and Josh (Celine). His pride and joys, were his grandchildren, David, Kaylyn, Skye, Ciera, Alexa, Allie, Jack, Taylor and Waylon. Alex is also survived by sisters, Stella (Gerald) Hastings; Deanie, Inverness;
Alana (Leslie), Fort Mack; FloAnne (Blaise), Judique; and special brother, D.A. (Marie), lower Sackville; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Alex was known for his love of sports, especially The Toronto Raptors, and The Toronto Blue Jays. He had a keen eye when it came to his favorite pastimes, shooting pool and playing darts. He also loved to strike up a political conversation on local or world politics to anyone who was willing to talk to him about it. Alex could be found with his coffee and sketch pad at the Inverness wharf, before taking his daily walks on the boardwalk.
Besides his parents Alex is predeceased by his nephew, Jeff Cormier.
Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Tuesday May 14 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
