William F. “Bud” Leonard, 89, died peacefully on December 5, 2017 surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on March 24, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana to William Leonard and Margaret (Tully) Leonard, both of County Galway, Ireland.
Dad attended Holy Cross Catholic Grade School and was a loyal member of the Cathedral High School Class of 1946. He served in the Korean War as a member of The United States Army.
On June 26, 1954 Bud married Patricia Mary Lewis at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was employed as an electrician for over 40 years as a proud member of the I.B.E.W., Local 481 retiring in 1991.
Dad was a quietly religious man who lived his faith by example. He was happiest when his family was around him. His sense of humor was dry and clever. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage, was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors and the wonders of nature. He particularly enjoyed a good thunderstorm.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents William and Margaret, sisters Ellen Falvey, Delia Leonard, S.P., Winifred Strack and cousin Mary Agnes Spellman.
Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Pat, as well as his children, William Leonard (Beth), Monica Huber (Richard), James Leonard (Denise), Mary MacDonald (Jim), Anne O’Brien (John) and Patrick Leonard (Michelle). Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jeff, Lucy, Sarah, Moira, James, Ellen, Anne, Matthew, Sean and Owen as well as his great grandchildren: Nora, Cayden and Lucy. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Maxwell (John) and his brother Rev. Sebastian Leonard, O.S.B.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4-8pm at Feeney Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on East 10th Street where he was a member for 57 years . Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
