Obituary of Virginia Theresa Buckner
Mrs. Virginia Theresa (Franklin) Buckner, daughter of the late James Lee Mack Franklin and Hilda Fletcher (Hyde) Franklin, was born on August 1, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the fifth of seven children born to this union. She attended Indianapolis Public Schools #37, #26 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in the class of 1952. She was married January 29, 1955, to the late Elmer William Yancy, to this union, one daughter, Michele, was born. On December 31, 1976, "Reese" as she was affectionately known, was married to Adolph Buckner Sr. and gained five more children. Reese was employed at RCA for five years and Tony Ray Laundromat where she later retired after over ten years of service. As a youth, Reese was a member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church where she accepted Christ; she later became a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, working cross word puzzles, sudoku, playing jeopardy and board games with her family and friends. If you heard a "Loud" thunderous laugh - look for the smallest person in the room and that was Reese! Reese and Adolph loved traveling. They could be found on a Caribbean cruise ship, a bus trip or "flying" the friendly skies. Reese departed this earthly life on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at the age of eighty-three years, 7 months and 20 days. Reese was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, Grandmother (Nana), great Nana, great, great Nana and friend. To know her was to love her; she will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Adolph; two brothers, Charles and James, four sisters, Carol, Edith (JoJo), Dorothy May and Anita. She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Michele Mitchell (Alfred), Kimeron Stewart, Adriann Jackson and Leslie Mundy (Pastor Chris); two sons Adolph Buckner Jr. (Carla) and Kevin Buckner (Mersheillia), 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great, grand child and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
