

Violet Yanakeff Gianakos, 89 of Indianapolis, IN, passed away from Alzheimer's disease on May 29, 2018. Mrs. Gianakos was a graduate of Emmerich Manual High School and was the daughter of Macedonian immigrants. She was married for 62 years to the love of her life, John, who preceded her in death in January of this year. The two travelled extensively seeing most of the United States and much of Western Europe. While working, Mrs. Gianakos was employed by the Indianapolis Star, the FBI and for 20 years with Block's (now Macy's) department store. She was a wonderful traditional Macedonian folk dancer and sang beautifully. Throughout her years she was very devoted to her family, volunteered often and was known for her love of gardening; possessing the ability to make anything grow. Mrs. Gianakos embraced life and had a wonderful sense of humor which all will miss. She is survived by her children, Paul Gianakos (Cheri) and Lisa Gianakos. Her two grandchildren, Jonathon Gianakos and Alexandria Barnes both have very special memories of the times they spent with their beloved Yiayia. Mrs. Gianakos had six nieces and nephews, all of whom will grieve for her as well. Calling will be on Sunday, June 3 from 5-7 pm at Crown Hill Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4 at the Gothic Chapel, Crown Hill Cemetery, with an additional calling at 10 am and funeral at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration be made for a donation to Alzheimer's Association.
