Van Kenneth Holder, 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on July 19, 2023. Van was born on September 05, 1932 to parents, Edward Holder and Daisy Mae Hubbard Holder. He was the youngest of five siblings. Van grew up in the Haughville area of Indianapolis and attended Indianapolis Public Schools. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1949 where he played on the baseball team.
Van enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17 where he served in Korea from 1949 to 1951 and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. Van was united in holy matrimony to Jean Rosha Bolen on March 12th,1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana. This union produced six children, Kathy Hayes, Pamila Lillard, Patrina Mahone, Ivan Holder, Traci Bennett and Troy Holder.
Van worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years, retiring in 1991. Van was preceded in death by his parents, his five siblings, his loving wife, Jean Rosha Bolen Holder and his son, Troy Holder.
Van was a longtime member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he was the Captain of the Usher Board, a Trustee Board, and Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. Van loved to bowl and play volleyball in his younger days; read, go to the movies, play dominos and horseshoes, watch sports-especially I. U. Basketball and westerns. Van loved to tell stories of his younger years and was very entertaining and hospitable. Van was always a happy caring father. Van would embrace all of his extended family and would treat them like his own children.
Van leaves to cherish his memory, Kathy Hayes, Pamila Lillard (Greg), Patrina Mahone (Johnny), Ivan Holder (Sandra), Traci Bennett , grandchildren, Justin Hayes, Lauren Hayes, Greg Lillard, Jr., Johnny Mahone, III, Janay Mahone, Ginelle Johnson, Shanna Finch, Keisha Mitchell, Evan M. Holder, Ivan J. Holder, great grandchildren Avan Finch, Josiah Holder and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
