Trent LaRon Garrett, beloved father, husband, brother and friend was called home on September 2, 2021, in Indianapolis surrounded by his loving family which include his wife Christie Gillespie, daughter Danielle Garrett and son Myles Garrett (Katherine McDaniel), all of Indianapolis. Other survivors include his sisters Deborah Lloyd of Louisville and Cynthia Green (Donald) of Jacksonville, brother Anthony Garrett of Kentucky, first wife Jill Archibald and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen Wilson (Garrett) and Johnny Wilson.
Trent was born on August 12, 1966, in Mt Sterling, KY and graduated from Montgomery County High School in 1985. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Anderson University, where he played football, and his law degree from McKinney School of Law at IU-Indianapolis.
Trent joined Keas Tabernacle CME Church at very young age, however, later in life he rededicated his life to Christ and became a faithful member of Phillips Temple CME Church in Indianapolis, IN. He was dedicated to attending weekly services and learning about the Word of God. During COVID, Trent watched on-line service of Washington Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Darrell Ashby, who became his mentor and adviser during his Christian walk.
Because of his caring and gentle personality, Trent was beloved by everyone who knew him. Nothing was more important to Trent than family, which also included childhood and college friends and former teammates. He and his wife shared a wonderful life together filled with love, adventures, projects and entertaining. Trent said many times that being a father to his children was his greatest joy and achievement. Danielle and Myles will forever carry the unwavering love and deep pride he had for them.
For nearly 25 years he was employed by Simon Property Group in both the real estate development and legal departments. Prior to Simon, he worked for Pioneer Electronics and UAW Legal Services.
There will be two celebrations of life, one in Indianapolis and one in Mt. Sterling, KY. The Indianapolis Celebration of Life will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home with visitation on September 13 from 4 - 7 pm and the funeral services on Tuesday, September 14 at 10 am. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
The Mt. Sterling Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 1 - 3 pm at the Dubois Community Center in Mt. Sterling, KY.
