Tommy G. Simms, 79, of Indianapolis, Indiana (formerly from Canton, Michigan) passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Tommy was born November 3, 1942 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to the late Polly and Gentry Simms.
Tommy passed away surrounded by his loving wife, son and daughter, holding his hand as he had wanted in the end. Tommy “called the shots” on Christmas day. He was tired and let his family know he was “ready to check out and cross over to the other side”. He fought so very hard, but in the end eternal rest was granted. Tommy worked hard and loved hard! He was the primary caregiver to his wife whom he had loved since he was 18 years old. He took such good care of her, he was kind, gentle and had a “calm” about him that could make everyone around him feel at ease. He was a loving husband, dad and Papa. He had a passion for music and spent many years leading the singing at church; he loved his Southern Gospel music! He worked hard during his life time and even when money was tight he always made sure that his wife and kids enjoyed a summer vacation. Tommy never knew a stranger, never judged others, and believed in second chances. He gave of himself unselfishly, always with empathy and compassion for others. He had a heart of gold and willingly shared it with everyone. We will miss the “Yello (insert name)” when calling him, and the fact he never actually said goodbye when hanging up, but never failed to say “I love you”. He will be forever loved and dearly missed by all of those that were blessed enough to be a part of his life.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; Susie Simms, children; Jeffrey (Dawn) Simms and Christina (Tim) Naughton, grandchildren; Ana Simms, Robby Simms, Josh (Sarah) Naughton , J'Aimee (John) Justiniano , and Jordan (Marija) Naughton, great grandchildren; Bea , Norah, and Gwennie Naughton, sisters; Polly (Ron) Jones and Terri Simms, brother-in-law; Billy Peeper, sisters-in-law; Mittie (Terry) McMaster, Frances Peeper and Brenda Schultz and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
