Teresa F. Slaughter (Carter) left her earthly life to join her Savior on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Teresa was born to Willis and Helen (Mattingly) Carter in Indianapolis in 1942. She attended Holy Cross and St. Thomas Aquinas Grade Schools and St. Mary Academy in downtown Indianapolis. After graduation Teresa entered the workforce at G. C. Murphy Department Store, followed by employment at Western Electric Company on Shadeland Avenue and most recently at Merry Maids.
During her employment at Western Electric, she met Paul Slaughter, and they were married in October of 1968, they were blessed with the birth of their precious daughter, Jennifer Lynn, whom the Lord called home after 2 days of her earthly life. As a devout Catholic, she and Paul attended Mass regularly and the influence of her faith led to Paul's baptism in the Catholic Church at Little Flower Parish. Both Teresa and Paul served as Eucharistic Ministers at Little Flower until Paul's death in 1993.
Teresa was a great lover of animals, especially strays which she would lovingly adopt and care for. Teresa was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter, mother and father, and brother Ralph Carter. Left to share family memories are her sisters, Linda Matthews and her husband Ollie and Pat Allison and her husband Dave, sister-in-law, Jane Carter, brother-in-law, Earl Slaughter, and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2021 at Little Flower Catholic Church, 4720 East 13th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46201. Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Washington Park North Cemetery.
Mask will be required and social distancing will be observed.
Teresa would greatly appreciate donations made to the Indianapolis Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
