Obituary of Sue Ann Thompson
Sue Ann Thompson, age 73, passed away October 31, 2022 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born January 22, 1949 to L.C. "Bud" Thompson and Mary Jane (Mansfield) Thompson. Sue earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Purdue University Extension in Indianapolis, then earning a Master’s Degree in Library Science at Indiana University, and going on to complete a 33½ year career as a children's librarian at the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, where after retiring, she was a substitute librarian for several years. Being a long-time advocate of western art, the Eiteljorg Museum was a perfect outlet for one of her many true passions. Sue was a charter member of the museum when it opened in 1989. She was a volunteer guide from Nov. 1, 1998 to May 7, 2005. She then became an employee of the museum from July 5, 2005 to March 29, 2013. Sue also had a passion for storytelling. Her love of books was something she wanted to pass on to children through storytelling, adopting the nickname "Miss Storyteller". Sue dearly loved her cats, starting with her first cats, Tigger & Huckleberry in 1983. Sue was the founder of a red hat ladies group, “The Red Hot Novel Lovers” beginning in 2002. Her love of expressionism through literary works led her to express herself through nail art as well, always donning seasonal and holiday inspirations on her hands to showcase her personality. Early in her life, she began square dancing and was a member of the Swinging Singles Club of Indianapolis for about 10 years where she met many long-lasting friends. Sue also loved to travel and her favorite place to visit was the Southwestern United States. Sue is survived by her brother, Charles "Chuck" (Angie) Thompson; best friend of 47 years, Bob O'Kelley; and 12 cats. She is preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 10th from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm at Feeney-Hornak Mortuary, 1307 N. Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46219 with a rosary at 1:30 pm. A short blessing by Father Farrell will follow. Burial will be at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sue's name can be made to IndyHumane, 7929 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268 or, to the Southwest Indian Foundation, P.O. Box 86, Gallup, NM 87305.
