The Honorable Steven Harmon Frank, the man whom influenced, helped and changed so many lives for the better, and who was a Guardian Angel for so many here on Earth, filled our world with so much love and wisdom, from March 23, 1944 to May 12, 2021.
Steve recently celebrated his 77th Birthday and 40 Year Wedding Anniversary with his “Sharon Anne”, the love of his life. Although his family and friends feel his time was too short, he lived life to the fullest. He graduated from North Central High School, Indiana University Undergraduate, and Indiana University Law School, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He had a very prestigious law career which included maintaining a Private Practice, part-time Judge for the Marion County Municipal Court in Speedway, and Judge of the Marion County Superior Court. When he retired from the bench, he became a Mediator for the Mediation Group, which was right up his alley, as he always just “wanted people to get along”.
He was a Member of the Bar of the State of Indiana, the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Bar of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Steve was also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association, and formerly the Indiana Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness for 29 years and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference.
He was given the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the Official State Award of Indiana and the highest distinction in Indiana. "It [Sagamore of the Wabash] is a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor”.
In addition to Steve’s very accomplished and remarkable career, and probably what was most important to him, was that he uniquely possessed the gifts of integrity, loyalty, compassion, humility, brilliance and humor, which is what made him special to all that knew him. He led by example and touched many lives, and the one’s he touched, were forever changed, and his friend. He was known to his family as “Boppa”, his grandfather name, and had a very special, and strong bond with family, as family was everything to him. Along with his unmatched devotion to his family, friends and work, which also were his greatest joys, was his passion for Golf. He was constantly trying to finding ways to improve his golf game and golf swing, and his favorite part of golf was the 19th hole, when accompanied by friends or family. So Lord, I hope you are ready because “Here comes the Judge”, he will be looking for the golf course and the 19th hole.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Bruce Frank, daughters Whitney Birch, Courtney Bennett and Lisa Frank, as well as his 4 Grandchildren whom he adored Lundy Birch, Will Birch, Sofia Veraldi and Frances Ripley.
Visitation is Thursday, May 20 from 2pm – 7pm at Crown Hill Funeral Home and the Funeral is Friday, May 21 at 1pm at St Luke Catholic Church.
