Steve was born January 2, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana as the first (and favorite) child of the late Sue and Thomas Covington. He was a one-of-a-kind, fun-loving Christian man who valued God, his family, and his country. He graduated from Southport High School in 1969, obtained his bachelor's degree from IU, and eventually retired as a truck driver. Steve, aka Bear and Covdawg, enjoyed spending time with his family, thrifting for good deals, framing his projects, creating uplifting cards, and passing out his signature cross coin. Steve was selfless and a ray of positivity to all.
Steve was preceded in death by his son Mark Alan Covington. Steve is survived by his two daughters, Bethany “Flamingo Princess” (Rob) Vickers and Shelby “Snuggle Bunny” Covington; six grandchildren, Elias, Caden, Noah, Lacey, Oliver & Milo; four siblings, Jackie “Queen” Storz, Tommy “Two Cents” (Donna “Faygo”) Covington, Diana “Cluck Cluck” Williams and Donna “Chipper” Couch; his cousins, nieces, nephews, and a plethora of friends. Steve has touched countless lives throughout his life, and he loved his family tremendobunches.
As a man of strong faith, Steve wished to have a celebration of everlasting life promised by Christ. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 5th from 4pm-7pm at Steve’s longtime church, Community Church of Murphy’s Landing. The funeral will be Friday, January 6th at 11am at Community Church of Murphy’s Landing followed by the burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
He would love to be remembered by funny stories that honor what was good and blessed in his life. Please wear something that reminds you of Steve, whether it’s Pacers, American Flags, Colts, IU, Flamingo, etc. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Wheeler Mission, or World Vision.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Covington family.
