Stephen Clay Coe, son of the late Estelle and Ramona Coe was born on June 13, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His son Larry and beloved wife Roslyn preceded him in death. He married Roslyn on December 10, 1977; unto this union two daughters were born.
Stephen received his elementary and secondary education through the Indianapolis Public School System, graduating from Crispus Attucks High School. He went on to receive an Associates Degree in Accounting Technology from Ivy Tech State College.
On August 17, 1965 Stephen voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force, reaching a rank of Sergeant. He courageously served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1969. He was a proud Airman and always spoke fondly of his time in Cam Ranh Bay.
Stephen was employed at the United States Army Finance and Accounting Center for several years where he met the love of his life, Roslyn. He was later employed at Bindley Western Industries Inc. as an Accounting Manager.
He referred to the men in his life as “Clyde”, a nickname given to him by his late son. He affectionately used this name as way to keep his son’s memory alive.
Stevie was the life of the party, always being referred to, even by himself, as the funniest man in the room. He loved to party and in his prime you would find him dancing the night away at his favorite nightclubs. He was an avid sports enthusiast who never missed a game. He played the lottery religiously and he also enjoyed watching westerns and playing cards.
Stevie loved his entire family dearly. He took pride in being the eldest of his 19 siblings. He also loved being a “Coe” and spent many summers down on Coe Ridge.
The true joy in his life came from his daughters and grandchildren. He was never happier than when he could talk someone’s ear off about Larry and Symone or his girls.
Stephen Clay Coe departed this life on April 9. 2024 at the age of seventy-six years, nine months, and twenty-seven days with his daughters and brothers, Donnie and Ronnie by his side. He was preceded in death by four siblings Linda, Pandora, Phillip, Debra, and Anthony. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughters Stephanie and Courtney Coe; two grandchildren Larry and Symone Cloyd; 15 brothers and sisters; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, family members, and friends.
A memorial visitation for Stephen will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life funeral service at 1:00 PM.
