69, of Indianapolis, departed this life at her home and surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. She was born November 4, 1951 in Indianapolis to Billy Durrell and Phyllis (Hust) Napier. Sherrie was a graduate of Ben Davis High School where she was also a cheerleader. She was a kind a gentle soul who was happiest making memories with her family and friends. She had worked for US Airways for many years and enjoyed the perks of travel. She enjoyed experiencing new places and people. She especially loved trips to Tennessee and the solitude of the Great Smoky Mountains. She was happiest though simply being with her beloved husband of 50 years and her devoted children and grandchildren.
Sherrie was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis (Hust) Napier and her dedicated brother, Billy Jo Napier. She is survived by her loving husband, John Montgomery; her grateful children, Kellie Lynn Warren and Tom (Annette) Montgomery; her loving father, Billy Durrell Napier; dear grandchildren, Hayley and Hayden Warren; great-grandchildren Emry and Scarlett Pippins as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and amazing friends. From her daughter Kellie:
It is with deep sadness that I have to tell you that Mom passed away yesterday evening [12/8/2020]. Mom was at home surrounded by loved ones when she made her journey home to be with the LORD. She fought an incredibly hard fight for several years with dignity and grace just as she did with all situations in life. She never complained, cried or had self-pity for being given such a difficult road to travel. She always kept her head high and never lost hope right to the end. I have yet to meet someone who disliked her. To know Mom was to love her. She made sure everyone knew they were loved. She is a precious soul that will forever be missed by everyone that she touched during her time on earth.
I LOVE YOU MOM. YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE.
From her daughter-in-law, Annette:
Sherrie’s favorite flower was the Sunflower, and how ironic that she herself embodied so many of the same characteristics: strong, simple, and a joy to see. I grow sunflowers every year, and last year one was bent by a strong wind. To my surprise, it continued to grow, and even bloomed as it grew horizontally along the ground. A beautiful reminder that even when things do not go as we plan we can still point our face to the sun and smile.
Despite all the tragedy and strong winds Sherrie faced, she continued to bloom as well. She woke up and chose to hang in there. There were times I was certain Sherrie would throw in the towel. Yet, she bravely battled cancer while continuing to care for all the loved ones in her life. Her well never ran dry. Even on her worst days, she could find a smile to give you, a meal to feed you, or an ear to listen to you. She was the keystone of the family, the Sun we all gravitated to, and around. Sherrie was our center, our Sun, our Sunflower, and we will all be feeling a bit lost
