He was born in Indianapolis to Mary Jo & Terrence O'Hara on September 3, 1955. He was their third child of eleven, but he often said he would've been their last if ESPN had been around.
He grew up on the east side of Indy attending church and grade school at St. Philip Neri, graduating from SPN in 1969. He went on to Cathedral High School where he excelled in football for half a season, before a concussion... and his parents, forced him to turn to the sport of cross country. He graduated from CHS in 1973.
His first job was a Indy Star paper boy, followed by a short career as a bagger at Richard's Market Basket on E. 38th St. A job with Culligan Fire Protection in the early 80s took him to California for a couple of years before he returned to Indy in 1983. Over the years he worked in facilities management for Anthem, Forum Credit Union, Cathedral High School and Launch Fishers. He retired from Launch Fishers in July, 2024 after 8+ years of service.
He met his wife, MaryAnn, at Pat Flynn's in 1999 and after several years of wining and dining her at the Anchor Inn, Golden Ace and Pat Flynn's, they married in 2002.
His greatest joy and pride came from his children, Liam and Delaney. He would be the first to tell you that they made him a better man.
Sean loved his family, his Irish heritage and his friends. He coached the Colts and Pacers from his recliner, was giddy when the first hummingbird of the season arrived and cried everytime Kevin Costner played catch with his dad in "Field of Dreams." He enjoyed traveling to Minnesota to spend time at his happy place, Lake Hubert, and visiting National Parks.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo O'Hara; father-in-law, Malcolm MacRae; brother-in-law, Danny Pierce; and nephew, Stevie McLinn.
He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn; children, Liam and Delaney; father, Terrence; and siblings; Kathleen Pierce, Sheila O'Hara, Peggy (Jim) McLinn, T.J. O'Hara, Jimmy (Natalie) O'Hara, Eileen (Al) Alford, Chuck O'Hara, Anne (Ron) Frick, Dennis (Marianne) O'Hara and Tom (Chris) O'Hara; and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on January 20th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th St. in Indianapolis. Visitation is 11 AM to 1 PM followed by the funeral mass at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Teacher's Treasures located in Indianapolis. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Feeney Hornak Shadeland Mortuary.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Community North Cancer Center and Community Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Sean over the last year.
Finally, to all the family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, friends of friends and perfect strangers, near and far, thank you for the prayers, gift cards, donations, meals, cards, texts and visits over this past year. Your kindness and generosity has been overwhelming.
