MRS. RUBY C. WILLIAMS was born on June 10, 1923 in Drew, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Ellis and Ella Small Campbell. She was the youngest of seventeen children. Eight brothers and eight sisters have preceded Mrs. Williams in death.
RUBY accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age in Mississippi. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1945 and united with the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a member of the Dorcas Missionary Circle, the Pastor's Aid, the Women's Bible Class, Sunday Church School, and as a Deaconess. RUBY united with the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in May of 2010 where she continued her service as a Deaconess and a member of the Pastor's Aid. RUBY loved the Lord and enjoyed serving and working in the church. She did so, faithfully, until her health prevented her participation.
RUBY enjoyed cooking, hosting dinner parties, and serving meals for revivalists. In her later years, she also enjoyed watching her soap operas daily and comedy shows such as Gomer Pyle and Madea plays and movies. She loved to snack on "Kit Kat" bars, lemon sandwich cookies, and skins - those were staples in her home.
She received her primary and secondary education in Mississippi. She also took a few college courses at IUPUI.
RUBY was employed as the manager of a cafeteria, Merrill's Industrial Catering, for many years. After leaving that employment she became an entrepreneur opening "Ruby's Quik Pick" on East 52nd Street in Indianapolis. She was also a Stanley representative, during which time she received many awards and accolades for her outstanding sales records. After having her own business for several years, she devoted her time to community involvement.
On October 5, 1957, RUBY was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Edward E. Williams.
RUBY was a dearly devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend. As a result of her motto "treat others as you want to be treated" she was loved and admired by many. If she could help you, she would.
MRS. RUBY C. WILLIAMS departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the age of ninety-six years, eleven months, and three hundred and fifty-five days.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Emma J. Broaden, Shirley Perdue, Edward LaMont Williams, Sr., and Ruby Elaine Williams Smith; Son-in-Love, Christopher Lynn Smith and adopted son, James Campbell (Delorise); two sisters-in law, Priscilla Williams and Loyce Williams; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the New Salem Baptist Church family.
