Obituary of Ronald Myers Clifford
Ronald “Ron” Myers Clifford, of Westfield, Indiana passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, after a battle of lung cancer, at the age of 75. He was born September 2, 1946, to the late A. “Lee” Jr and Margaret “Peggy” (Myers) Clifford in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended school at Kentucky Military Institute and graduated from Broad Ripple High School, Indianapolis, IN –class of 1964. Ron attended University of Miami (Florida) for college, a brother with Sigma Chi fraternity. Ron was the class president his freshman year and part of the “Singing Hurricanes” group, graduating class of 1969. He was fortunate to have traveled the world with his family and loved to tell stories from his “Voyager 1000 Travel Club” days. After visiting the entire world, when asked where he’d live, if he could live anywhere, his response without a doubt was “Indianapolis”. During the Vietnam War, Ron was in the Army’s finance department, where he served ensuring the service-members received their paycheck. In 1980, Ron founded Clifford Engineering, a branch of his father’s electrical component distribution business that originated as A. Lee Clifford & Company founded in 1920 with A. Lee Sr. and Ron’s Great-grandfather (A.I.). Ron took pride in being the owner of his own company for over 40 years. Ron is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia “Pattie” (Swinford). Additionally survived by his children and 5 grandchildren; Kristin Myers (Addison and Mason), Kara & Ryan, (Ryleigh and Jordan), Andy & Andria (Rowin), his brother/best friend, John (Kathy) Clifford, multiple nieces & nephews plus great- nieces & nephews; along with anyone who referred to him as “Uncle Ron!” He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, A Lee (Bud) Clifford, and nephew, Peter Myers Clifford. Ron was a member of Calvin Prather Masonic Lodge #717 F. & A.M., Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. At Murat, he was a long-time member of the Patrol and Gun Club. He was a past director (1989) of Indianapolis Court No. 15 Royal Order of Jesters. Auto racing was one of Ron’s greatest passions. He attended many Indianapolis 500 Mile races and other motor sport events held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) since his childhood, it was his happy place and he looked forward to the month of May every year. Ron was a member of the 500 Mile Oldtimers organization and a member and past president of the United States Auto Club Winner’s Circle Club 100. A special “Thank you” to the kind & caring nurses of Premier Hospice for helping the final weeks.
