Robert Jaggers, age 77, of Greenfield, Indiana passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Robert (Bobby) Jaggers was born on June 16, 1945 in Linwood, Kentucky to James Burl Jaggers and Delia Mae (Fults) Jaggers. He grew up on a farm with 4 siblings, where he learned the values of honesty, hard work, determination, and survival. These seeds were sewn at a young age, and they sustained him for 77 years.
“Jag” served as a tank driver in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He served with many great men, two of whom would shape the course of his life. It was there, that he met Michael Chaney who became his lifelong friend and Donnie Smith who became his brother-in-law.
In 1969, he returned home and married Anna Fay Smith of Kettle, Kentucky. Over the next 53 years, they were a testament to love and dedication. They spent the majority of their lives in Greenfield, Indiana, where they raised their son, Ryan.
Bobby spent his career at Herff Jones in Indianapolis, where he started as a jeweler. His artistic talent, attention to detail, and dedication were noticed by all. He worked for many years as a supervisor before retiring after 34 years of service.
He was able to enjoy retirement for over 20 years. He loved gardening and woodworking. In his later years, he found new passions that he could pursue. He loved to hunt for, collect, repair, and sell his “treasures.” Some of them were even kept on public display.
The final months of his life were spent at home. Through the end, he kept his hand to the plow, pushing straight ahead. On March 30, 2023, he finished his work and put his tools away for the final time. He passed peacefully at home with family and friends by his side.
Bobby leaves behind many loved ones: wife Ann, son Ryan (Jenny), grandchildren Annaliese and James, siblings from both the Jaggers and Smith families, a host of nieces and nephews who were his “bonus children,” and many close friends that he considered family.
