Obituary of Robert Richard Beck
Robert Richard Beck (82) passed from this life into life everlasting, December 17, 2017 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Bob was born July 9, 1935 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Fred and Theresa Beck who preceded Bob in death. In addition, a sister Ruth Beck Worth is also deceased. William Frederick Beck, his younger brother, is currently living in New Jersey. Bob was a graduate of Manasquan High School, Manasquan, NJ and New Jersey Institute of Technology with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Meteorological Degree from New York University. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force in 1957 and spent 4 years as a Weather Officer at Dobbins Air Force Base, Marietta, Georgia where he received a peace time discharge as Captain of the U.S. Air Force. In 1960 Bob was employed by the Chevron Corporation where he began his career as a Mechanical Engineer and culminated as Executive Plant Manager. Bob's 36 year career took him to Perth Amboy, NJ, Pascagoula, MS, San Francisco, CA, Houston, Texas and Marietta, Ohio. He retired in 1996 and relocated to Indianapolis, IN where he has resided until his death. Bob is survived by his wife Bea of 62 years, three adult married children, Richard Douglas Beck (Donna Moffett Beck) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Patricia Beck Summerlin (Dr. Don-John Summerlin) of Indianapolis, IN and Dr. Paul Steven Beck (Lisa Thornhill Beck) of Loudonville, NY. Bea and Bob have 7 grandchildren, Kristen Beck Reese, Bryan Richard Beck, Rachael Lindsey Beck, Jonathan Paul Beck, Samantha Lynn Summerlin, Janelle Victoria Beck and John Beck Summerlin. They also have five great grandchildren, Noah Reese, Evelyn Beck, Jonah Reese, Jacob Beck and Kensington Reese. Bob was a regular attendee of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Indianapolis , IN. During Bob's long career with Chevron he was very active in the communities in which he lived, volunteering in numerous service organizations, church committees and served on several executive boards. But his greatest joy revolved around his family. He took great pride in and solace from his loving family. There will be a Celebration of Life service for Bob on January 6, 1 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 8115 Oaklandon Rd., Indianapolis IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Michael J.
