I was born with a lower spine deformity and lived with it as a child.
Dr. Lindseth performed surgery on me in 1976.
His work in the field of orthopedic surgery is greatly acknowledged and I appreciate the work he did for me as I have been able to lead a productive and overall happy life.

I discovered Dr. Lindseth's passing as I was researching potential treatment years after hip displaysia surgery he performed in 1984 at Riley.  I was 9 years old and a gymnast, and had severe hip pain anytime after completing any type of routine.  My local doctor sent me to Riley, initially for potential arthritis.  After a CAT scan, they discovered I had hip displaysia and I was sent to Dr. Lindseth.  He entered the room, and said, I've reviewed the x-rays and CAT scan, and you need surgery sooner than later.  I was terrified.  He explained the procedures; 2 because pins, plates and screws had to be inserted and then removed.  I hated it, every single thing about it.  But he was ALWAYS so kind, always explaining to me what to expect.  He made me feel comfortable,  he felt like my grandpa.  You just knew he was a great man.  I am so thankful for him as I would not be able to walk today if not for him.  His passing is a huge loss not only to his family, but the medical community.   I for one, am so thankful for him.  My sincerest condolences on his passing.   

I trained in Orthopaedics @ Riley in the early 80's. Dr. Lindseth was a quiet expert who ran one on the largest myelomeingocele clinics in the world. He performed long, difficult operations on severely impaired children ( and adults) with great skill. He was frank and honest in his assessment of one's performance. He was shown great respect by those he taught.

Dr. Richard Lindseth will be long remembered as a kind, incredibly intelligent man and skillful surgeon. In the early 80's I worked in the Riley Occupational Therapy Department and had the opportunity to learn from him and work with him.  I witnessed his patience and positive attitude with clients and students. He willingly shared his time and expertise in lecturing to my Occupational Therapy students when I transitioned to teaching in the School of Allied Health. I will always be grateful to have known him.

Dr. Lindseth was my chairman for most of my residency at Indiana University. There isn’t a day that goes by that I am not grateful for Dr. Lindseth. As a young resident, I remember assisting he and a more senior resident on a difficult pediatric case. There was an episode of sudden and significant bleeding. I recall Dr. Lindseth’s calm reaction, and I watched as he  walked the senior resident through the process of getting the bleeding under control. That experience has stuck with me to this day. His example is the standard that I try to emulate in my life. Thank you Dr. Lindseth.

The passing of Dr. Lindseth is indeed sad.  He was a wonderful, caring physician and helped hundreds of children throughout his career.  He was also an excellent educator to dozens of orthopaedic surgery residents, many of whom still practice in Indiana.  He was a mentor to many faculty members.  He was always  kind, humble and forbearing.  He will be greatly missed by all.  

Dr. Lindseth hired me at Riley almost 29 years ago to work as his clinic nurse. I was young and had so much to learn. His patience and love of teaching was endless. He treated everyone with dignity, compassion and love. His patients loved him and his staff respected him. His Orthopaedic Department is better because he served unselfishly for so many years. He always worked for the greater good, never for accolades or awards, although deserving of any that came his way.  Words can never describe the impact he had on my life. I am so thankful I got to learn from this great man and physician. 

It is with great sadness that I learned of Dr. Lindseth’s passing. Although I started my career at Riley as he retired, I have had the great fortune of benefiting from his wisdom, advice and support over the years.  At Riley Hospital for Children, we will strive to continue the legacy that he started and provide care to the children of Indiana with the same passion and dedication that he did over his career.

I’m sad to learn of the passing of this great man, physician, mentor, and friend.  As Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr Lindseth hired me in 1997.  As I am now Chair of this department, I have even more respect for this fine man.  He will be missed.
