Richard was a proud Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He eventually became an electric lineman for a telephone company. Richard worked many jobs throughout his life, some may say he would grow tired of one and move onto the next adventure. He was a salesman through and through. He sold lots in Florida, becoming a top salesman and earning him a brand new car. Cars were his specialty when it came to sales, he did this for 22 years. Richard sold oil wells in Tennessee and Kentucky as well. He loved to speak of his job with George S May International as a Corporate Business Consultant, where he got to tell CEOs and CFOs how to improve their company’s performance.
Richard was a member of the American Legion and was active in his sons’ High School Sports Booster Club.
Richard was an avid bowler and golfer during his free time. Another one of Richard's hobbies was making inventions, he was a proud patent holder.
In his final years, Richard worked for his son at Duncan's Fireplace and Patio Center. Though he worked many jobs, being a father, grandfather and great grandfather were his dream jobs. He loved that his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even close family friends affectionately called him “The Popster”.
Richard is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Jean (Steinmetz) Duncan, sons; Richard H. Duncan II (Lynda), Stephen R. Duncan (Kathy), William J. Duncan (Tracey), Christopher D. Duncan (Monica), and his daughter; Janet M. Hellmann (James). Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.
