Ralph received his education through the Indianapolis Public School System and soon afterward, enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1948 until 1952.
On September 23, 1953, Ralph was united in holy matrimony to Alice Jean Hopson. During their marriage they were blessed with five children.
Ralph was employed at General Motors Corporation for 29 years from August 1959 - March 1988. He worked as a trucker on the Material Department Team, Manufacturing Division.
Ralph had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. An eternal optimist, his wit and humor was endearing to family and lifelong friends. He came to know Christ as a young man, and with his knowledge and love of the Bible, became a spiritual advisor to many. Some of his favorite pastimes were golfing, fishing and playing pool with his buddies. Ralph was a man of many talents, including being an excellent artist. He had a beautiful and majestic voice, always carrying a song in his heart. Ralph enjoyed western movies and comedies; he always made us laugh re-enacting movie scenes.
On October 16, 2022, Ralph departed this earthly life at the age of ninety years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ronald, Charles (Sonny), Robert (Bobby) and sisters, Anna Ruth, Jeannine and Orville and grandson Jeffrey “JT” Hopson.
He leaves to cherish his memory six children: Ralph Eggleston, Terri Hopson, Rhonda Hopson Jones, Jeffrey Hopson, David Hopson and Lisa Hopson; six grandchildren, David Hopson Jr., Simone Hopson, Ashley Hopson, Jana Hopson, Adrienne Smith and Brandon Jones; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Hart, Anthony Hart, Angela Smith, Gary Smith, Jacqueline Rose Hopson, Anna Josephine Hopson, Jaylen Hopson and Hallie Hopson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
