Polly was born on February 24th 1939 to the union of James Bell Sr. and Ida Bell Quarles.
Polly moved from Kentucky to Indianapolis as a child with her family and received her
elementary education at John Hope School #26 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High
School.in 1957.
Polly accepted Jesus during her youth and served the Lord throughout her life. Polly met
and fell in love with Buford King and they were married July 30th 1966 at Eastside Baptist
Church, to this union their only daughter was born - Nicole King-Martin (Nikki). Polly
maintained her membership at Eastside Baptist Church til her death.
Post graduation Polly began her career at Western Electric and worked there til the
company closed in 1983. She now devoted her life to the two loves of her life: her family and
fashion. She took pride in being a homemaker and participation in activities with her
daughter, especially Girl Scouts. She was very active in numerous groups and organizations
throughout the years. Polly was a Fashion Diva before the term Diva came to life. Polly
made all of Nikki's dresses when she was a young girl. It was Polly's joy to see Nikki wearing
her creations in fashions shows and walking runways with her. Polly had an affinity for hats
and her hats were the star of numerous fashion shows throughout the city of Indianapolis.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Bell Jr.and her sister Norma
Jean Quarles Freeman. Her loss will be felt by her remaining family: Her husband of 56
years, Buford King, her daughter Nicole (George) Martin, two granddaughter Makayla and
Malani Martin, Brother Leonza Quarles and two sisters Lucy Leona and Deborah Michelle
Quarles. Polly has a large loving family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
