Peter Lee Schaefer, age 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024. Peter was born May 15, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN and has lived here his entire life. He attended Indiana University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. At IU he met and courted Marilyn Addington who he married in August of 1955.
From high school on Pete worked for the family cemetery memorial business "Edward W. Schaefer and Sons". He retired in 2005 he had been active in all aspects of the business for 56 years.
Pete and Marilyn have two sons, Kenneth (Laurel) who lives in Garland, Texas and Christopher who lives in St. Louis, MO.
Pete was active with his sons in Scouting from about 1967 to 1975, taking pride in seeing both boys become Eagle Scouts.
Pete first became interested in padlocks in about 1968. His current collection numbers about 1,150. He has been managing the Indy Lock Show for 30 some years and he was inducted in to the "The Lock Collectors Hall of Fame" in 2013.
Padlocks are not Pete's only interest or collection. He and his wife collect items marked 1934 from the Chicago World's Fair. They are both interested in all forms of auto racing and have an entire room filled with diecast cars and Hess trucks. Pete and Marilyn both make and collect Dollhouse miniatures. They were founding members of the "Hoosier Mini-Mizers", one of the oldest miniature clubs in Indianapolis. They have been active members of the "The Museum of Miniature Houses" in Carmel, IN since its founding and both presently serve on it's Board of Directors.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
