Just two days prior to her 80 birthday, on September 14, 2023, Nancy G. Adams, broke the bindings of her earthly existence and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She entered this life in Detroit, Michigan, on September 16. 1943 to Virginia Handeyside Gould and Frederick Covell Gould. She grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, and graduated from Bloomfield Hills High School. She attended Indiana University, studied elementary education and received her B.S. degree in 1965. At IU, Nancy was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
In the fall of her sophomore year, she and several IU coeds took a bus trip to Wabash College for a football weekend mixer. There she met her life partner, Wabash sophomore R. Morris Adams. They were married in 1966. After Morrie finished graduate school in 1967, they lived in Birmingham, Michigan. In 1970, Morrie moved Nancy and their young son Doug to Indianapolis, the environs of which she lived for the rest of her life. Their daughter Julie was born in 1972.
Nancy’s love for children was evidenced by her career as a preschool teacher in various church sponsored preschools around the area. It is not surprising that “Miss Nancy” was very popular with her students. She was a member of College Park Church, the Children’s Museum Guild and the Dramatic Club of Indianapolis. She also was a member of several Bible study groups over the years.
Nancy is survived by her husband Morrie, daughter Julie (Doug) Browning, son Doug (Lori) Adams and seven grandchildren: Jack, Abi, and Zoe Adams; and Reese, Hope, Silas and Lydia Browning. She is also survived by her brother Bruce F. Gould.
A memorial service for Nancy will be held in the chapel at College Park Church at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 27. The family will be pleased to visit with attendees after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to College Park Church, the Children’s Museum or the donor’s favorite charity.
