Emma Sunday of Indianapolis, IN went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2018 at the age of 102 years, 3 months, and 4 days.
Emma was born in Pensacola, Florida on November 15, 1915. English was her favorite subject growing up, and she was good at it. She enjoyed playing hopscotch and baseball. Her fondest memories about her family are that they said she was a "piece of gold", which her dad said most of all. Emma considered herself a "daddy's girl", and vividly recalls her dad singing to her mother, "Just Molly and me, and baby makes three. We are happy here, in our blue heaven."
Emma married Elbert Sunday in 1942 in Pensacola. While there, she raised chihuahuas and babysat. Mr. Sunday worked at the Naval Air Station. Emma eventually started working at the Naval Air Station too. She was so small that she was able to get to the broken parts out of the fuselage of airplanes.
Emma and her husband eventually moved to Akron, Ohio, where she worked as a professional silk presser at Town and Country Dry Cleaners. It was in Akron that she raised Constance, as well as Constance's two daughters - Tanya and Alesia. Many years later, Emma moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, which was her final resting place.
Preceded in death by her parents (Vivian and Lawrence Williams) and husband (Elbert Sunday), Emma leaves to cherish her memory granddaughters, Tanya (Kenneth) Ford, Alesia Shepherd, grandson, Christopher Martin, great-grandchildren, Rayshaun Moore, Jocellyn Caprice (Geoffrey) Combs, Kenneth M. Ford II, Marcus Martin, and great-great grandchildren, Rayshaun Jr. Moore, Raynia Moore, Raynajha Moore, Montez Moore, and a host of extended family and friends.
