Mrs. Mildred O. Peterson, 89, Indianapolis, transitioned from labor to reward on February 7, 2016.Born in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi on July 23, 1926, she was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, school teacher and fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She was a Civil Rights and social activist and a Lifetime member of the NAACP. She attended Tougaloo College and earned herteachingcertificate from Indiana University Northwest.She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, children: Freeman Peterson, Lewis Peterson (Ethel) and Joyce Peterson;brother, Dave Washington of Compton,California; long time friend, Gloria Purnell of Gary, Indiana; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. The visitation is Saturday,February 13, 11am to 12pm, with the homegoing service commencing at 12pm in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3421 N. Park Avenue. Theinterment will immediately follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
