IN THE CARE OF
Leppert Mortuaries - Nora
Michael J Langdon was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven last Saturday, December 9, 2023, after a long struggle with Alzheimers.
Born August 27, 1938 in Sturgis, Michigan, he was the second and youngest son of Jack & Mary Ann (Schilling) Langdon.
Mike grew up in Elgin, Illinois and upon graduation from Elgin High School spent one year at University of Illinois prior to enlisting in the USAF. While stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, he somehow reconnected with his high school girlfriend, Patricia Wright, who was studying abroad at the University of Madrid. They fell in love and were married at St. James Episcopal Church, Manhattan NY on September 1, 1960.
Returning to Germany, their first son Michael Wright, was born in January. Upon completing his service obligation oversees, Mike moved his family back to Champagne, Illinois where he enrolled at the University, graduating with a Marketing degree in June, 1964. During this time, a second son, John Anthony, was also born. A third son, Samuel Bayliss was added in 1971.
Mike was hired by the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company and moved his family to Indianapolis in the summer of 1964. Mike worked hard and developed a trusted reputation and made a successful career in the Indianapolis investment and financial planning community culminating with Langdon Shaw Associates opening their doors in 1983. After his retirement from Langdon Shaw partnership almost 30 years later, he continued on as a respected mentor and consultant.
Mike’s deep faith in the grace of Jesus Christ was his life’s highest calling and he was devoted to daily modeling a selfless life of service. He was so motivated to reach out and serve those who were less fortunate, the downtrodden, the overlooked and those in prison. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and served 19 years as a volunteer coordinator of the annual Indianapolis Great Banquet. Those who knew Mike will surely agree that he seemed to always have a joyous heart, a warm smile, and an uplifting encouragement to share.
Despite his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Mike persevered and maintained his positivity until the end. Even throughout his degradation, he often shared how he was encouraged and affirmed by a verse in 1st Corinthians: “But we have the mind of Christ” Throughout, he never lost his smile, his laugh, or his jovial attitude amongst his wife, family and friends.
Mike was sadly predeceased by Patricia, his wife of 62 years in 2022 as well as son John in 1993. He is survived by son, Michael W and Amanda Langdon of Irvine CA and son, Samuel B Langdon of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Brittany Barkley (Matt), Kendall Carver (Blaine), Molly Rasmussen (Joe) and Samantha Langdon; grandsons, Captain Luke Langdon (Claire) and Ben Langdon; great-grandchildren, John, Jackson, Bella, Sophia, Chloe, Wesley, Lucy and Michael.
