87, of Indianapolis, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2016. He was born October 22, 1928 in Cass Co., MO. to parents Archie L. King and S. Fern King. He was raised in West Liberty, Ohio, trained for radio and TV repair in Chicago and entered the Army in 1951. After the service, Merle attended Ohio University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He later earned his Masters of Arts in Public Administration from Syracuse University. He worked for the Federal Aviation Agency for 28 years around the country and ended his career in 1986 as the Sector Field Area Manager in Minneapolis, MN. He and wife, Dianna retired to Ellenton, FL. until moving to Indianapolis in 2010 to be near family. Merle was born and raised Mennonite and converted to Methodist as a young adult. He always very active in the church choir. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and also enjoyed tennis. He is survived by his wife, Dianna (Arthur) King, daughters Pamela (John) Ramsbottom, Cynthia Wright, grandchildren Brian Cox, Christine (Chris Seidensticker) Wright, Jennifer (Michael) Svrcek, Glenn Lucas, four great-grandchild, sister Vera McCarty, sisters-in-law Faye King and Joan King and brother Willard (Lydia Belle) King. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herbert and Forest Dale King, sisters Ruby Paul and Valeta Headrick. Funeral Service will be Thursday March 10 at 1 pm at Hoosier Village Chapel, 5300 W. 96th Street, Indianapolis with visitation starting at 11 am. Entombment will be at Washington Park North Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Hoosier Village Health Center for their patience, compassion and care.
