Marylee Wright, 97, of Carmel, passed away October 22, 2022. She was born February 5, 1925, in Indianapolis to the late James and Mabel (Lowery) Beaver. On April 29, 1945, Marylee married her high school sweetheart, Fredrick (Fritz) Wright and for 61 years they shared many special memories. Their loving union brought two children into their lives, Shelly (David) Diehl of Atlanta, GA and Cindy (Richard) Steele of Carmel.
Fritz and Marylee owned and operated Homestead Lumber Company for 25 years, where Marylee served as Secretary-Treasurer. After they sold the business, Marylee obtained her real estate license and worked for the F.C. Tucker Company for 13 years.
Marylee was an active woman. In her younger days, she enjoyed golf, bowling, playing bridge, and gardening. She always looked forward to attending musical performances at Beef and Boards. More recently,she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities including sporting events, dance recitals and theater productions. She was quick to entertain young family members with a game or treat. Not one to shy away from travel, Marylee joined extended family on many enjoyable vacations around the US.
Marylee was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Indianapolis Athletic Club, and the Riviera Club. When her children were young, she taught Sunday School at Epworth United Methodist Church.
Marylee is survived by her two daughters; seven grandchildren, David Diehl, Jr., Emily (Bill) Wilkins, Chad (Andrea) Diehl. Kady (Casey) Weaver, Kristin (Sean) Miller, Nicholas (Amanda Mae) Steele, Kelsey (David) Pison; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Wright, and her sister, Betty Roberts.
Family gathered to honor Marylee's legacy at Second Presbyterian Church. She was laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
