Mary Lou Yates

Mary Lou Yates, 93, Zionsville, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023, in her home. She was born on November 3, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan to Wava Marie Carpenter and Deo Russell Forbes.
Mary Lou was a loving and deeply caring woman who showed great strength throughout her life in both raising and providing for her family as well as being a dedicated member of her church community.
In addition to being a loving mother, she worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Education at IUPUI and starting in 1991 opened three Stride Rite shoe stores throughout the Indianapolis area. She was also a successful property owner.
She was a devout member of Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, providing love, support, and leadership to its members.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Roy C. Yates Sr. and her son, Roy C. Yates, Jr. (Julie).
Survivors include her brother James, children Bruce (Betsy), Robin, Russell (Elise), and Robert (Anne), grandchildren Katie, Andrew (Barb), Caroline (Adam), Dustin, Madison (Efra), Jennifer, Laura (Dan), Jon (Ulyana), and Allison, as well as great grandchildren Luella, Piper, Charles, Victor, Nina, Paige and Margaret and nieces Kathy, Colleen, Gail, Beth and nephew Brian.

All of those she loved and touched deeply please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:00 am at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery Peace Chapel, located at 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
