Mary Harkness

79, of Indianapolis, departed this life Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Mary was born December 29, 1942 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Dr. Edward J. and Alfreda (Walters) Berens.

Mary was a kind and gentle soul who always put her faith and family first in her life. She was a 50 year member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she served on the parish council and Good Samaritan committee. She also gave of herself for the Indianapolis Children’s Bureau Auxiliary, often giving tour of the Hoosier Dome to raise money for the bureau. Being dedicated to her children, she had helped as a den mother for cub scouts and girl scouts.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, John C. Harkness; devoted children, Glenn (Cindy) Harkness and Amy (Brad) Flinders; dear brother, Bill (Barb) Berens and grateful grandchildren, Natalie, Abby, Adam, Ian, Katie and Megan; several nieces and nephews and a host of beloved longtime friends.

A memorial visitation for Mary will begin at 9:00 am on Thursday, March 17th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and conclude at time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. A reception will follow services in the church gathering room.
