She attended Swallows Elementary School and graduated from Darwin High School in 1949. After high school she worked at Cookeville General Hospital. She was baptized at an early age and was a devoted member of McClellan Ave. Church of Christ in Cookeville, TN. After relocating to Indianapolis, she was a member of Fall Creek Church of Christ until moving to Hamilton Co. where she joined Fishers Church of
Christ. Mary Catherine loved the Lord and made it a point to read her Bible daily. She never met a stranger as she truly loved people.
Mary Catherine shared her many talents with everyone. She had a passion for crocheting & knitting and blessed her loved ones with unique blankets. She was an exceptional baker. She not only took private orders for her baked goods but any contest she entered she was sure to win as evidenced by her numerous blue ribbons for her candy, cakes, pies and cookies. And anyone who sampled her famous rolls couldn’t enjoy just one or two.
Mary Catherine married the late George Thomas Robinson and to this union four children were born George Jr. (predeceased), Greg, Debe, and Michael.
In 1982 she was blessed in a second marriage to her late husband, Charles Hubert Burris, Sr. They blended a loving family. Mary Catherine, affectionately known as Mama, Grandma, Nana and Mother Burris, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law, cousin and friend.
Over the years she made many friends through her travel with family and as a member of the Red Hat Society. She wore many hats (literally and figuratively) and made everyone she knew feel special.
Mary Catherine Burris departed this life on Friday, February 17, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Charles Burris, Sr., her son, George Robinson, Jr., and her sister, Roberta Copeland.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Donnie Robert Burris (Jackie), James Gregory “Greg” Robinson (Peter), Jerry Wayne Burris (Paula), Terry Wayne Burris, Michael Wayne Robinson (Cathy), and Charles H.
