

Springfield, TN. The family later moved to Indianapolis, IN were Marvell attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1956.
Marvell met Effew Jean Phelps in elementary school, and they went on to marry in 1959. From this union two children were born, Vaughn Moore and Michelle Ledford.
Marvell worked for ATEC, EarthTech and Stephen J. Christian & Associates, PC within the construction industry for more than 45 years as a Construction Inspector and CAD Operator.
Marvell was actively involved with the One Voice Martindale Brightwood and Oak Hill Community Associations whose missions are to serve as a unified network to collaborate, inform and advocate for the safety, empowerment and wellness of Martindale Brightwood and Oak Hill residents.
Marvell was an avid bowler and held offices across the local and national level for the TNBA bowling league. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of the Da-Sons group. He was known for his melodious bass voice. The group was managed by Showtime Entertainment and performed throughout the central Indiana area.
Marvell gave his life to Christ at a young age and was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church for over 50 years. He sang with several choirs over the years and actively supported the Men’s Ministry Fellowship. He served as one of the Founding Board of Directors members of the Farrell Bell Senior Apartments.
Marvell was known for his confident and smooth demeanor, wisdom and sense of humor. Marvell was loyal to his family and friends frequently supporting his children, nieces, and nephews in numerous social and athletics activities. He was a mentor and counselor to many and known for his direct and straight to the point counsel.
Marvell was preceded in death his father Virdner Moore, mother Bertha Lena Moore, and brother Dennis Moore. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 64 years Effew Jean Moore, son Vaughn Moore, daughter in law Melendy Moore of Charlotte, NC, daughter Michelle Ledford, son in law Keith Ledford of Fishers, IN, bonus daughter Denise Currin (Boyd) all of Indianapolis, IN. Grandsons Malcolm Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Myles Moore of Charlotte, NC and Sean Ledford of Fishers, IN, sisters in law Gloria Helm and Juanita Catlett and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Marvell will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM.
