Marie S. Mitchell

Marie S. Mitchell, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. Marie was born February 19, 1929 in La Porte, Indiana to the late H. Myron & Marie (Burgoon) Smith. She had earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Service at Indiana University. Marie married John “Jack” Mitchell in August of 1950.

Marie was a longtime and dedicated member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for 53 years where she sang in the funeral choir, led small faith groups and helped families plan funerals.

Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, John E. “Jack” Mitchell; beloved son, William Joseph Mitchell; dear siblings, Margaret Carter, Joseph Smith, H. Myron Smith, Catherine Smith and Patrick Smith.

Marie is survived by her devoted children, John P. Mitchell, Greg (Deborah) Mitchell, Timothy S. Mitchell, Thomas J. (Cheryl) Mitchell, Janet (John) Inderstrodt, Mary Ann (Bernie) Holand and Marilyn (Whenrick) Rodney; 17 grateful grandchildren, Mark Mayer, John Mitchell, David Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Jill Inderstrodt, Christine Jimenez, Aaron Mitchell, Jennifer Johnston, Shannon Moran, Ryan Mitchell, Sean Moran, Kelly Hampton, Christopher Inderstrodt, Lisa Radcliff, Darius Mitchell, Scott Holand and Jordan Holland; 26 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to Fatima Retreat House in Marie’s name.

Visitation for Marie will begin at 9:30am on Saturday, February 24th at St. Pius X Catholic Church and conclude at time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Final services will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
