“A Life Filled with Joy”
85, of Wanamaker, Indiana, was joined with loved ones, friends and Jesus Christ, Friday, December 4, 2020.
Born in McKenzie, TN into a loving Christian family, Margaret’s youth was filled with fun and joy. In her teens she worked with her best friend at the local Dairy Queen, and was even voted the McKenzie “Strawberry Festival” Queen one Summer. Her beautiful smile was only exceeded by the number of great friends she cultivated in McKenzie.
In the mid-1950s, Margaret moved with her parents to Indianapolis. Upon meeting her future husband, Kenny, at the Riverside Park roller skating rink, dating ensued and eventual marriage secured their lifelong love together. Briefly living in Brooklyn, NY with Kenny and then returning to Indianapolis, Margaret was a highly respected employee skilled at bookkeeping and accounting. Later, she invested her talents by teaching young children as a teacher’s assistant/tutor at Bunker Hill Elementary School for many years.
Upon the births of daughter, Cathy, and son, Kevin, Margaret flourished as a mother and full-time homemaker. Growing and canning vegetables from their garden, planning family vacations, enjoying friends at the Wanamaker Fire Department and at local Franklin Central High School sporting events were wonderful times. Margaret was also a joyful church choir member for years, enjoying sharing of the gospel through hymns.
She was well known in Franklin Township for her volunteer efforts helping others. Activities at local schools, Gray Road Baptist Church, her neighbors and others appreciated Margaret’s enthusiasm and warmth.
As an accomplished artist/painter, she attended art lessons in Brown County and taught painting classes herself as well. She was able to enjoy this hobby with her mother, Grace, also an artist, displaying and selling their paintings at shows and exhibits. What wonderful fun it was!
Margaret enjoyed traveling with Kenny, family and friends and was always eager to see long-distance family or make new friends on new adventures. Hawaii, Las Vegas, the Smoky Mountains, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, the West and others were included in their travels.
She was a trusted and loved friend to everyone, with a great sense of compassion and motivation that inspired all who she met. An enthusiastic lover of the outdoors, extraordinary “chef” & expert gardener, Margaret loved life with her all. Above all, Margaret would be most proud to be remembered as the devoted Christian wife, mother, and grandmother that she was.
Her death was preceded by her husband, Kenneth Anderson, parents, Leonard and Grace Ross (Thomas), and brother Charles Ross. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Macaluso, grandchildren, Paul and Trent, (of Shelbyville) and son, Kevin R. Anderson (wife, Meridith), and grandchildren, Michael, Alex and Emily Anderson (of Indianapolis).
Private family only visitation will be held at Little and Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11, Indianapolis, IN on a date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions should be directed to the charity of your choice.
