She gave her life to Christ at an early age after attending Mound Bayou High School. She relocated to Chicago in 1947. She worked for Nabisco and retired after 43 years of service. In 1952, she married Carse “Honeyman” Franklin, and to this union four children were born, along with their 2 beloved sons, Sonny & Lee.
Lorene was a loving, proud, strong-willed and nurturing woman. She loved to travel, go to the horse track and listen to her sultry blues music. If you were hungry, she fed you. She had a heart of gold and was the
matriarch of our family.
Lorene made her transition from earth into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at her home. Lorene will be missed by many.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Carse “Honeyman” Franklin; sons, Carse (Sonny) and Eddie Lee Franklin; grand-daughters, Kimberly Franklin and Tyler Cowan; 4 brothers, Sylvester, Huey, Eddie and Earsey; 4 sisters, Irene, Beauty, Ola Lee and Verna Jean.
She leaves to cherish in loving memory her daughters, Patricia Wilson and Darlene Franklin Asendio, sons, Carl and Sherman (Connie) Franklin; grandchildren, Lolita, Michele (Jerry), Carse, Anthony (Tomeka), Natasha (Johnathan), Angela (Rodney), LaKeisha (Corey), Montrey, Carl Jr., Omar (Erica), Estayvenia (Brittany), Donica, Sherman Jr., Dumars (Constance), Raymond, Gwen, Prince (Tammy), Natasha (William), Khali, Laelonni, Gina (Steve), Brent, and Tara (Bryan); 44 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lee Ester Harris; brother, Charles Berlin, Jessie (Laura), Gray; Dianna and Cheryl Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation for Lorene will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
