Latonia received her elementary, high school education and graduated from the Indiana School for the Deaf, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a competitive athlete while in school and received several medals that represented her achievements in track and field.
Latonia also enjoyed drawing and art and she recreationally displayed her talents during her youth. She enjoyed collecting toy memorabilia to include her favorite Mickey and Minnie dolls, an adorable blue long arm hanging monkey, her pink vintage princess telephone, and her jack-in-the-box. She loved string lights, and loved watching television. Her recent favorite pastime was familiarizing herself with her new android tablet. Latonia was really getting the techniques committed to memory. She enjoyed watching YouTube stage plays that were performed in American Sign Language (ASL). She enjoyed watching the play on the tablet and looking up at the television to enjoy that programming at the same time.
Latonia was always gentle in her demeanor, yet intent in letting you know whenever she didn’t understand or agree with what was being communicated. Her aunt and dad fondly stated that she was “stubborn” and they would chuckle as they lovingly and patiently compromised with Latonia. She LOVED to eat fast food and home cooked meals. She was a exceptionally meticulous housekeeper in her home. Nothing was ever out of place. She was affectionately known as “Tonya” and “Latonya”. She enjoyed posing for photographs and there was always a twinkling light in her eyes as the picture was taken. When she smiled, it seemed to light up the room and she was happy to see you come into her house (especially if you had gifts) and “very” happy to escort you to the door (with her keys right in her hand to lock the door behind you). She loved buying TVs and toys more than buying clothes and Croc shoes and she was very down to earth.
Latonia loved her family and she was a beautiful, independent, adventurous, and confident woman. She was a blessing to her mother. During the past 4 (four) months of her life, Latonia endured health complications, but she never complained; even when in pain. She welcomed prayer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and positive affirmations. Latonia worked as a housekeeping specialist in various Indianapolis hotels for several years. Latonia Jean Wesley departed this life on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at American Village, Healthcare, Moving Forward Unit. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn Wesley and her sister Trudy Shade. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving father, Melvin D, Wesley; her loving aunt Florence Hicks and loving aunt Mae Belle (Jim) Johnson; her loving stepsister, Annamaria Crider; her loving cousins Ronnie Hicks, Tommy “Tim” James, Lenora Hicks (deceased), Carol Killebrew (deceased), and Roseann (Wayne) Pullins; her great-cousin Tamala (Kevin) Tichenor; her step nephew, John Crider, Jr.; and a host of loving cousins, family and friends.
