Larry Eugene Thomas, 78, recently residing in Indianapolis, IN, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023. The son of the late Orville Glenn Thomas and Wilma Marie (Wood), Larry was born April 8, 1945, in Mount Vernon, Indiana.
A Christian, a retired pastor, and a retired mortician and funeral director, Larry also worked for Citizens National Bank, and the Boy Scouts of America throughout the Midwest and Plain states. A learned man, Larry earned his Bachelor’s degree from Calvary Bible College at Kansas City, MO, a Master’s Degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science at Wheeling, IL, and held an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Kingdom of Heaven University in 2017. He started work on a doctorate degree in 2022 before his health failed.
Passionate for the outdoors, Larry spent much time hunting. This interests led to raising hunting dogs, field craft, wood working, and sharing with the handicapped and unfortunate as an Executive Director for Boy Scouts of America, while balancing family and career. Additionally, he spent time studying the Bible and doctrinal teachings.
Larry is survived by his recent wife Mary Etta (Sands); his brother Dale and sister-in-law Joyce, who live in Mount Vernon; son Brian Thomas with his wife Garsy; his daughters Cheryl Thomas and Kari Thomas; and four grandchildren (Ty, Ethan, Wyatt, and Aryn).
His father, mother, brother Jerry, and first wife Phyllis preceded him in death.
A ceremony celebrating his life work and family will be announced at a later date.
