Colleen Ann Aasen Schmidt – Kelly – was born on May 27, 1963 in Indianapolis, Indiana and died on March 10, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana and will be buried next to people she loved and who loved her in Earlham Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana. Kelly attended Immaculate Heart, was a graduate of Shortridge High School and a Deans list student and graduate of Fortis College and owner of Kelly Consulting, Inc. Kelly was a life-long parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church. Kelly is survived by her daughter Casey Johnson, her son Wil Schmidt, her grandson Damion Johnson and her granddaughter Lilith Johnson and the longtime love of her and his life and life partner Steven K. Brock, her loving brothers and sisters and many, many family members and friends. Kelly loved people, our lake house in the U.P and to travel. Kelly visited 23 countries and three continents. Kelly went everywhere. She watched the Pope give Easter Mass at the Vatican in Rome, She dipped her hand in the water of the River Jordan where Jesus was baptized and she visited Notre Dame two weeks before it burned. She went on safari in Kenya, a driving trip throughout Germany and a train trip throughout Italy. She loved London, Paris, Rome, Dublin and Venice. Kelly was a certified open water diver and had dove to 125 feet in the ABC islands. She was an ASA certified sailor and had sailed both the British and U.S. Virgin Islands. On a flight tour over Mt. Denali in Alaska the pilot gave Kelly the controls. Kelly was born with a damaged heart. But it’s not what you are born with, it’s what you make of what you have. Kelly made that damaged heart the best, most caring and most giving heart anyone has ever seen. A kinder, gentler, smarter, harder working, more caring, more loving, more generous person will not be found. Kelly was many things to many people – but the one thing she was to everyone she met was their friend. She will be missed by all who knew her every day for the rest of our lives. She has left us far too soon and the world is a far sadder place now without Kelly.
A visitation for Kelly will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Feeney Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220.
