Joe graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1955, and Indiana University thereafter. He began his real estate career in the 1960’s with the F.C. Tucker Company in Indianapolis, after a brief stint in the Residential division he quickly moved over to the Commercial division, focusing on office sales and leasing. He was a leading producer for many years. Joe also was a member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) before retiring in 1997.
Outside of his professional career, Joe’s passions included sailing and bicycle racing. He served as Commodore for the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club in 1973. His bike racing career began in 1956 as a Phi Kappa Psi rider in the Little 500 at Indiana University. He later raced at the Velodrome in Indianapolis, the State Games, and many races coinciding with small town festivals throughout the state of Indiana. One of his most memorable races was winning the criterium in the 1988 South Bend Ethnic Festival Event, where he overtook the leader coming out of the last corner in front of the crowd to win.
Joe is preceded in death by Joe Schaub Jr. and wife Ruth. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Sharon, sons Joe IV & wife Elizabeth, son Steve and fiancé Susan, daughter Elizabeth Nye and husband Gary, grandchildren Joe V, Justin, Jason, and Samantha and Christopher Mikesell. Great grandchildren Isabella, Conner, Joe VI and Carlisle Schaub. Stepchildren Carrie, Krista, Rod, step grandchildren Morgan and Logan, and step great grandchild Sophia.
The family will be holding a private gravesite service in Indianapolis.
In Lieu of flowers the family prefer memorials be made in Joe’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. (ALZ.org)
