Joseph Lawrence McAuley, Jr., 59, of Indianapolis, passed away February 24, 2021. He was born August 17, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Joseph Lawrence McAuley, Sr. and Mary Ann (Harding) McAuley. He was a graduate of North Central High School, Class of 1979, and was a machinist for most of his life.
Joe was a “Jack of all trades”…he enjoyed golfing, yearly fishing trips to Lake Erie, camping, fixing anything that was broken, collecting knives, shooting, and spending quality time with friends and family. He also enjoyed cooking, making people laugh, working on cars with his sons, making gadgets with his 3-D printer, and woodworking.
Joe is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary (Hagan) McAuley; sons, Austin McAuley, Joseph (Taja Nutall) McAuley III, Sean McAuley; daughter, Savanah (Alex Garcia) McAuley; sisters, Dawn Hynds, Gayle (Larry) Whitmer, Kim (Tony) Francis, Terri (Dennis) McGrath, Karen (Charles) Brooker; sister-in-law, Patty McAuley; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael William McAuley.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 2-5 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. At 5 PM, friends and family will be invited to share memories and stories. We will livestream the memory sharing, starting the live video at approximately 4:50 PM EST.
