Jack Smith took his final Clark Griswold trip—to heaven, we hope—on October 27, 2022. Jack is survived by his sainted wife, Dorothy, his daughters Tricia Scanlan (Tim), Susan Gilbert, and Katie Smith; his grandchildren Fiona and Liam, Emma and Ryan, and Madeleine; and his great grandson, Griffon.
Jack was graduated from Villanova University, served in the United States Marine Corps, and worked for IBM, Lexmark, and Butler University. He volunteered at Holy Cross Central School, Second Helpings, Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis, and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
He loved his family and friends, who mostly loved him on a good day. He loved watching Notre Dame football, drinking a good martini or three, cooking, debating with his friends on a variety of topics, gardening, traveling (especially to Ireland, Sanibel, and Tanque Verde Ranch), playing platform tennis, fishing, boating on White River, and driving his Mercedes convertible. Although Irish to his core, he was hopeless at golf!
Jack’s calling will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive,Indianapolis, IN on Friday, November 4 from 10:00 am until noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon. A final send off will be held at the White River Yacht Club following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Miracle Place, 5437 Fallwood Drive, #110, Indianapolis, IN, 46220: Attention Sister Barbara McClelland. Https://amiracleplace.org
